The Georgia Aquarium is one of the U.S.’s largest, and has an incredible tunnel where you can walk under all the aquatic wildlife!
Perfect spot to take the kids. Not into kids? They also host evening adult-only events with bands and DJs, often benefitting a local charity.
Local tip: Buy tickets online ahead of time or for off-peak times to save a few bucks!
The World of Coke is a fun journey down the path of making and marketing the iconic brand, based in Atlanta Georgia since its origins. They even have a stop at the end of the self-guided tour where you can try all of the many, many beverages!
Local tip: Located right downtown, a visit can be easily combined with the Aquarium so look for an “all-day” parking lot vs. by the hour, or Uber/scooter in.
The College Football Hall of Fame is a neat exhibition to celebrate all your favorite players. The building is located nearby the professional sports arenas for the Atlanta Hawks (NBA/ Philips Arena) and the Atlanta Falcons (NFL/ Mercedes Benz), so pair a visit with a game or a concert.
Local tip: Love the game? Plan your trip to coincide with the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, held annually at the end of the calendar year in Atlanta!
As a hub for civil rights, Atlanta has two excellent museums on the subject. The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park is free, and has a quick but memorable museum with an outdoor reflection space. The downtown Center for Civil and Human Rights may not be free, but is well worth the entry. The “lunch counter” exhibit is not to be missed.
Local tip: Get to the MLK Jr Museum early to request tickets to tour his childhood home, just down the street.
Surely you’ve heard of the popular band Outkast? One of many famous artists from Atlanta, the city’s long been celebrated as THE city for rap, hip hop and R&B music. Recently the Trap Music Museum has opened on the Westside, offering a unique view into a newer genre popularized first in Atlanta.
Local tip: This museum is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so plan your visit accordingly.
The Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts is a quirky and fun museum to check out. With rotating exhibits, it’s got attractions for both kids and adults alike as well as supports puppetry shows in the area with regular performances at the center.
